Abstract
GUANGZHOU, Sept 5, 2025 – A total of 1,200 intelligent multi-functional electric beds have been installed across 32 county-level hospitals in Guangdong Province, part of a RMB 2.38 billion provincial initiative to upgrade critical care infrastructure. The deployment marks the first large-scale adoption of IoT-integrated hospital beds in southern China's grassroots medical institutions.?
Supplied by local manufacturers including Mindray and United Imaging, the beds feature real-time vital sign monitoring, automatic pressure redistribution, and data integration with hospital HIS/EMR systems. Built-in sensors track 127 data points daily per bed, transmitting alerts for abnormal parameters to nursing stations. "This connects grassroots facilities to the same intelligent care standards as top-tier hospitals," explained a Guangdong Health Commission official.?
The initiative aligns with national (hierarchical medical system) policies, which aim to improve ICU capabilities in rural areas. County hospitals previously relied on manual beds, with limited capacity for complex patient management. "The new beds have increased our ICU admission capacity by 40% and reduced transfer rates to city hospitals by 28%," reported a hospital administrator in Meizhou.?
